I want the win so I have to be practical and go with DeSantis. I'd love it if Trump to won, but as I keep saying Independents will either vote D or stay home if Trump is the nominee.

How would it change the election if Biden pulls an LBJ and quits?

And Trump is put against someone like - Newsome?

Its not Trump against the D. Its Trump against Trump. The base isn't big enough, and I don't think he can convince the middle that it wont be another term of endless chaos and fighting. They beat him with an imbecilic sock puppet last time. Because right or wrong, he's tainted in so many minds.

Do you think, though, that a lot of people will hold their nose and vote for Trump because Biden is such a disaster? Or do you think they just won't show up because to them it's same-same?

See, the problem with Democrats is that they vote the D no matter who it is. You could put a hamster on the ballot and as long as it had that D after its name Democrats would vote for it. All those so-called "independents" - you get to talking to them and they aren't center at all, unless you compare them to Mao Zedong. They are hard left Socialists and counterculture imbeciles. They do not have one conservative opinion, or even lean that way in the slightest.

See, you left out a possibility. Its like this.

1. Hold nose, vote Trump
2. Stay home
3. Hold nose and vote for the walking corpse or whomever takes his place.

Last time, a lot of it was a combination of 2 and 3, plus a bit of corruption, I think. And I dont think the bad taste Biden is leaving is enough to sway those numbers. The smears have continued, and while we know its 99% bullshit, you can never convince the "with that much bad smell, there must be something rotten" crowd. And is not diehard leftists saying that. Just folks, maybe voted for him in 2016. If he takes the primary, I'll vote for him, but I wont expect him to accomplish as much as he did in his first term.

Think most of the forumites here are too polarized, they can't actually understand the middle who don't talk or think about politics 99 percent of the time.

Yes, the left watches MSNBC and right watch FOX and they both have their opinions, everyone else watches whatever happens to be on at the barber shop or airport.

And those people only heard horrible stuff about Trump non-stop for the last 8-9 years (whenever he started running for 2016). They aren't going to go out of their way to vet their news sources, they aren't going to attempt to get better informed, and they aren't going to vote for Trump even if they might otherwise lean R.

Trump can win in an honest election.
The problem is how do we make it honest.
If we allow them to cheat like when Biden was elected it doesn't matter who runs, they aren't going to win anyway.

Actually - statistically - it’s like an inverted Bell Curve, when you gauge independents. Big area on the right and left, valley in the middle. These are “leaners” on the edges - they can go either way but usually vote their side - or they don’t vote. A very slim section in the middle is actually apolitical.

Or just not at all interested.

The key in elections used be to sway the leaners on either side. It still is, but Dubya was the first to say “screw that, we just need MORE of our guys to show up!”. It worked. Twice.

Then they nominated McCain and it didn’t work for Republicans - Obama got the independent vote.

This is what concerns me. I don’t think the nation can TAKE four more years of Joe - at this point, electability trumps everything. And I fear more than half the country will STILL vote for Joe no matter how much more he screws it up. The D’s will. And count on cheating in the large Democratic controlled cities.

Whoever runs against Joe has to beat him by a couple of touchdowns. Any closer and they’ll squeak out Arizona, Nevada and Georgia - again.

No problem with the road blocks, NYers not welcome. Florida was one of the least lock downs in the bation.

In a head to head, who would you choose? Note that there's no "Other" - the choices are Trump or Desantis.
I think Trump was on the right track when he was President and things would be great right now had he won a second term. But as someone else said, he has too much baggage. I won't vote for Trump in the primary, but If he wins the primary, I'll vote for him in the general unless the democrats come up with someone really amazing, which isn't likely.

The great thing about living in MD is you can vote for any name on the ballot because, with a few exceptions, the D is going to win MD's 10 electoral votes.

It just doesn't matter anymore.

McCain was the worst candidate the right has run in forever. I think he was a sacrificial lamb to the Obama train. The Obama train was off the tracks in 2012 when Mittens ran. Mittens cleaned house in the first debate with The Won, then took a powder..Still think he was paid off somehow but he quit running after the first debate. He's in my top 5 of most hated politicians(only Repub on it).
