It took him 9 days. You don't think that's slow to do something that helps provide aid?
The Jones Act is an archaic law that forced shipping costs to almost double in some cases when shipping to PR or Hawaii.
That's what Unions do........

http://www.cnn.com/2017/09/28/politics/puerto-rico-governor-white-house-jones-act-waiver/index.htmlActing Department of Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke said the waiver will be in effect for 10 days and will cover all products being shipped to Puerto Rico, according to a release from the department.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/lawmak...from-delivering-aid-to-puerto-rico-1506529999“We’re thinking about that,” Mr. Trump told reporters when asked if he would lift restrictions on foreign vessels’ operations, “but we have a lot of shippers and a lot of people... who work in the shipping industry that don’t want the Jones Act lifted. And we have a lot of ships out there right now.”
In fact you did all those things in this vet thread and the one about taking a knee
People are dying in PR. But let’s talk about illegals voting. How many people have died in PR, compared to say Houston or Florida.. How many have died since the storm passed??
Blacks are being harshly treated and sometimes killed by police. Let’s talk about the disrespect to the flag! Only blacks are being treated harshly and killed by police, or is it your belief ONLY Black Lives Matter??
Do you see how stupid you sound? Yes, I definitely see how stupid you sound.
Man up and face the facts. You are a racist. Apparently you are, since you seem to be the only one bringing race into the discussion..
to Your last point I have no idea what you are taking about. When did that happen?
Makes you wonder why Trump hasn't pressured congress to get rid of it altogether instead of just 10 days.
Because I want a wall. And I want tax reform. And I want a whole bunch of other stuff before Trump goes worrying about crap for Puerto Rico.

Look, I depise Donald Trump. However, since when did people forget how to look past the person and see the action? In this case, he did something good that will help Puerto Rico. Can you at least grant him that?
I guess what I'm saying is that Trump did something that is good and compasionate (I would like to see more of this), so why find something to complain about?

Why does it have to start with Trump? This is a federal law, seems to me it would start in the house.
Working in shipbuilding for 30 years, I couldn't begin to count the number of times and ways that people have tried to both strengthen and weaken or eliminate the Jones Act. Regardless, as soon as it is repealed, what little tiny bit that is left of US shipping will be gone soon after.
Why do you think that, and why is it especially difficult for Puerto Rico? You would think that if the Jones Act was so oppressive it would equally hurt every shipping port in the country.
I don't "think it"; it's the fundamental reason why we still have the Jones Act. US owned, flagged and crewed shipping is non-competitive. Period. Without MSC, US cruise liners, the Cali-Hawaii shipping and a few other exceptions, there would be no US "shipping industry" and all those exist largely due to both Jones Act restriction and, in the case of military sea lift and MPS activities, heavy government subsidies as well.
In a nutshell..the Jones Act keeps our local seamanship school in business too. ;-)
The whole fuss in PR about the Jones Act was a total nothing burger..a red herring. There was no "flood" of non Jones Act carried product held off. That was all utter BS. I'm sure that's why Trump did eventually issue the waiver; he didn't issue it initially because it was a pointless exercise..useless in actual effective. Conversely, that made it "easy" for him to waive it after the uneducated and demagogues fussed about him not doing it.
Schools,,,, Dont forget Calhoon Meba over on the shore.

I always forget about them.. Of course I live next to Lundeberg and used to even teach there 25 years ago, so it's the one that immediately comes to mind.
Are all the Puerto Ricans dead yet? Has Trump succeeded?
