According to the "News Channels", officials still can't get into parts of Biloxi to determine damge, or more importantly, of the people that stayed, how many have met demise.

Looks like Biloxi MS., took the major brunt of this storm. Wow, I know people there...
This photo of what WAS a McDonald's in Biloxi says it all:

They definitely got the worst of the storm. :frown:

Awful pictures and stories on the news...
:yeahthat: I was watching one piece where they were flying over New Orleans, Gulfport, and Biloxi in a helicopter. The devastation is complete and absolutely incredible. :frown:

NEW ORLEANS -- What police presence there is in New Orleans and Biloxi, Miss., isn't slowing down looters.

A police spokesman in New Orleans said a police officer was shot in the head by a looter, but he's expected to recover.

Dozens of looters on historic Canal Street have ripped open steel gates to stores. Some filled plastic garbage cans to carry or float stolen goods.

In Biloxi, looters picked through slot machines of damaged casinos to see if they still have coins inside.

As looters stripped stores of items, sometimes in front of police, violence broke out in the Big Easy. At around 11 p.m. EDT, two gunmen with AK-47s fired shots into a police station. No one was hurt, and the men fled into the city's French quarter section.

:yeahthat: The news this morning is saying that the conditions (primarily the flooding) is actually getting worse vs. better. There was a long line of volunteers with flat-bottom boats who came from outer areas to help search for survivors, and they said that some of the boats were going past dead bodies floating to continue to search for survivors. They're even talking about evacuating the football stadium folks. :frown:

I'm confused. Did they or did they not order a mandatory evacuation of N.O. when they knew Katrina was coming as a Cat 5?

The pics are UFB. I don't know how they can ever recover from this.
Yeah; Think about it - they're talking months - not weeks or days, before life returns to some normalcy down there.

They're showing pictures of police capturing looters. Somebody tell me please, how you can justify going into a store and taking what you want, or will? Just because it's an emergency, does that mean things have a "free" sign on them? :ohwell:

One of the stories on WTOP had some guy saying it was payback for those "oppresed by society". Guess the perpetual victims thought it was payday.

Maybe that's why they didn't evacuate - they wanted to get those free TVs and jeans.

Looting is a part of life in any city when the lights go out or some other disabling thing happens. The minute the cops are otherwise occupied or unable to respond, the dirtbags come out and start stealing things.

This tells me that, under normal circumstances, there are a lot of people who have criminal tendencies but are kept in check by law enforcement. You'd think city officials would notice that as well and use it to deter crime when things are normal.

I'll bet if NO would put out a policy statement that cops are to shoot looters on sight, it would stop.

"Oppressed by Society", my butt! Who said that - The Rev. Jesse Jackson?

Now would be a great time to break out the Tasers!(hmmmm, maybe not - with all that water around?)

Funny:

I was listening to Chris Core last night and he was talking about the looters. This black lady calls up and starts reading him the riot act for wanting to shoot looters (which is where I got the idea in my previous post). She says, "Would you say that if the looters were white?" Core replies, "I have no idea what color the looters are - do you?" And the woman says, "I assume they're black..."

That's interesting. She calls to accuse Core of racism but it's SHE that is assuming the looters are black.

Heard that gators have been seen in the streets, that should slow them down a little.

Sounds as though she answered without thinking.

"Somebody help me get this foot out of my mouth?"
