But you are already being mugged... The cops cant help now... How are you going to call in the middle of being mugged.

Oh wait mister mugger man, before you start, can I call the cops so they can get here by the time you finish

I'm sorry you're naive enough to think that way. That is as much of an impossibility as it is for the police to have prevented this.

I think that stopping a crime in progress falls within their job description.

How many times, however, have you seen people call the police and say that "So-and-so is threatening me" and the police respond with something like: "That's not illegal - call back when a crime has been committed."

They're not being lazy. They're doing their job properly.

You sound negative as heck and you are being ignorant to the pain and suffering of those around you. You can be empathetic and giving of compassion without judging those who have suffered through a tragedy and condescending in your attitude. If you call your attitude optimistic, then I don't want to be optimistic if involves being cruel to another human being.

werent u talkin to me? :lmao: how do I sound negative?? I have alot of sympathy for these people....

i dont know how you got that from my comments.

i'm also misunderstood :(

Interesting you should say that, since you sure seem to be trying your damnedest to turn this into the Qurious show.

From the accounts I'm reading, the police didnt even know where Norris Hall was.....

was there no security on this campus?
evacuation routes?
dispatch system to direct officers to the correct location?

These are the precautions I'm talking about that could've prevented this tragedy.

When a school fails to keep their students safe things like this happens....its horrible!!! All I'm saying is that tragedies like "this" could be prevented if law enforcement and schools would work together.

What a nice mugger lettting you place a phone call while he's muggin you!!

If the cops were defending you, they would have been at your side and PREVENTED the mugging.. as it is they don't protect or defend, they REACT, and will show up after the fact, after you've been mugged, raped or killed, AFTER you've had the chance to call 911(or your next of kin has a chance to call)to do their duty.

This is nothing bad about the police, but as to what is and isn't their job there is no debate. They can ill aford to have a cop car in the driveway of every house, or even on every street, of even in every neighborhood 24 hours a day, which would make it IMPOSSIBLE for them to defend and/ or protect anyone other than themselves.

It not that they aren't supposed to defend you, but that they won't be there when you need defending.
How often do you think a mugger will attack if you're standing next to a cop?

This is all good in theory, but when it actually happens, witnesses can't tell you who did what, where the shooting was and when you're being shot out, the only evacuation plan you can think of is in ANY direction that's AWAY from the gun fire.

So lets blame the cops and school, instead of the shooter.

So you're saying they should have an armed security guard sitting in the back of EVERY classroom??

How long would it take if they had been to Norris Hall twenty times in the last ten day? IF they knew exactly where they were going from whereever it was the cops were? No compare that to how fast you can empty a 9mm handgun that holds 15 rounds? Who wins??

What you are asking is that the school and police make a contingence plan for gunmen entering the school on a shooting spree. Who could have anticipated such an incident? Maybe someday all schools will have to have these plans just like a fire drill, but it hasn't happened yet.

Exactly, it can't be the shooters fault, I mean he's just reacting to his parents not letting him eat Fruit Loops when he was 5 years old..

I remember a safety training lesson in which the instructor told us if something like this happens, put your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye. Really, what can anyone do but take cover and try not to be hit by a flying bullet.

I think that's what I'd like to see, at least. If someone were to open fire at my school, no one would know what to do. They'd run around in any direction just as Rack'm suggested.
