Aw, what happened? Chief's is usually a sure thing.
It was probably my fault.
We had reservations at 7. We walked in a few minutes early and stood at the seating podium thing they have by the front door. No one was there. We stood there for a few minutes, waitresses walked by, and finally Lee goes over to the only open table which had a sign that said reservations/7:00. He said this has got to be us, especially since it was the only open table in the whole room, so we sat. Waitresses continued to go by for another ten minutes or so. I flagged one down and Lee said something about, there was no one to seat us, so we figured this had to be us because was had reservations at 7.
The waitress was not one of the more pleasant waitresses. She said we have lots of reservations at 7, checked the reservations book and said she had nothing under our name. I said well you all texted me today and I responded and Chiefs responded to that. She said that don't mean nothing. I started to say something about I could show you, but she said we could sit there and at that point, there was no point in showing her.
So, another ten minutes goes by. We got beers, she took our order and everything came out pretty timely and hot but honest to God, the oysters were about the size of a quarter. All six of them. If that had been me frying them, I would have stuck two together and padded it that way. They seem like they've changed the recipe as well, not as good as last year.
And to boot, another plate of fried oysters came out for another table and my smartass boyfriend said wow look at the size of those oysters. Followed by jeanie, you're just got to start being nicer to people. He's like the nicest guy in the world and I swear to God, he can talk to people in stores and restaurants and all of a sudden, he's getting freebies and discounts. Me...they'll raise the prices in a heartbeat.
So as you can plainly see Vrai, it was all my fault for challenging the reservations.
I haven't given up on them by a long shot. Chiefs is one of our favorite restaurants and the oysters in the past have been good sized and perfectly fried. And they have other things on the menu equally as good as oysters. And for the most part, the majority of waitresses are friendly and the owner is frequently there and will stop by your table to chew the fat for a minute (I like the homey feel to that place).
Bet you're sorry you asked! I promise to stay off the forum for the rest of day.
