I tend to avoid them anymore because of the texture of wet dough. Ick.Never encountered that.
Probably why I never liked dumplings.
I miss my Gammo's chicken and dumplings. I have never been able to replicate them. Just glops of mushy batter.

That's the one my Gammo used too. I think, the broth needs to be at an active boil to cook them quickly.Christy's mom makes the best chicken and dumplings in the universe. She uses....Bisquick, the recipe on the box.
I too use the Bisquick recipe. 10 minutes covered at a simmer, 10 (I go a bit longer) uncovered to "dry out".That's the one my Gammo used too. I think, the broth needs to be at an active boil to cook them quickly.

My late husband loved chicken and dumplings. I got pretty good at making them, but that was a long time ago. Yes Bisquick.Chicken and dumplings in the crockpot yesterday with leftovers today and tomorrow.
I cheated last night, I just used four chicken breasts, cream of celery and cream of chick with herbs, chicken broth, frozen peas & carrots. For the dumplings I got refrigerated Grands biscuits, flattened them, tore pieces off and dumped them on top of the chicken mixture, turned the crockpot to high and let it cook for another hour. I know...My mother is turning over in her grave right now.My late husband loved chicken and dumplings. I got pretty good at making them, but that was a long time ago. Yes Bisquick.
I haven't made them since he passed. Wasn't my thing but it made him happy.
