Which was it?

I've been pondering, over the last few days, whether I should or not I should do this; however, I thought, it is the Religious Forum, so I'm going to pray, aloud for all my bretheren - Believers or non - believers:

"Our Father, who art in Heaven, Halloweth be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And, lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil;
For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory forever."

I am praying these word will reach into the hearts of everyone who reads it.

Rote love..

It would be more sincere if you used your own words.

Why - because I don't see the need in engaging in the tedious behavior of expressing what I've already expressed - only to have you dismiss it out of hand after twisting the meaning of what I said?

If you want to call that winning, then congratulations.

Mind you don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

Ahhh! He was predestined to respond!

Now are you praying to God or to man?

I don't think it's love by rote repitition. I think it's rote repetition of love. I think Penn believes, and uses the commonly known phrases to help others, while praying alone for you in Penn's own way.

Thanks.

Shake the dust from your feet as you walk away from the critics; take back your blessing.

This is the prayer Jesus taught the masses to pray, in Matthew chapt 6 :9.

I was praying to the Father in Jesus's name. Hope that clears things up. :yay:

Our Father who art in Heaven.... Hmm, can you really not figure out the prayer?

I'm familiar with the prayer, but thanks for the clarification. I probably shouldn't go into it at this point in the thread but, here I go. I always thought that the purpose of prayer was to commune with God. I think that prayer is a private, personal, intimate thing. If I see a prayer plastered on a message board it makes me wonder what the intent of the prayer is and who the intended audience of that prayer is. Assuming that God is not "logged in" on this thread right now I must come to the conclusion that this person is very concerned that other people are aware of his or her "prayer life". That makes it similar to "other people" who post, "I just prayed for you" with the best of intentions, of course, but might not realize how trite it comes off.

God is "logged on" all the time.

Praying for others privately or publicly is OK. Praying to draw attention to oneself is not OK, but that is neither my intent nor do I think it was Penn's. As to your opinion of me or other Christians. why would I care? I certainly don't care about Midnight's opinion. I may pray for you both anyway. Not much you can do about it. :lmao:

It is sad that you don't care what other Christians think about what you are posting. Again, here, you are waving prayer at midnightrider and me like an obscene gesture. I can't judge your intent I'm just telling you what it looks like.

If it makes you feel any better, I did not pray for you or Midnightrider. :huggy:

It is hard to tell you are a Christian by what you post, and why would a Christian not want to be prayed for or why would they not understand praying for others?

Jesus said:
Matthew 5:44 "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
wx, Midnight, and even you persecute those that proclaim Christ on this forum.

Paul told people he was praying for them in Romans, II Corinthians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, Philimon. John said he prayed for them in 3 John.

We are instructed to pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16Rejoice always;

17pray without ceasing;

18in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Then there is this:
1 Timothy 2:1-4

1First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,

2for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
So tell me again why, as a Christian, I should not pray for you or Midnight or wx or anyone else.

I am sorry that it is hard to tell that I am a Christian.
I am sorry that I make you feel persecuted.
I am sorry that you have not mastered the English language.

You find fault with proclaiming the word of God. If I am doing something you perceive as scripturally incorrect, take it to me in private as instructed as one Christian is to treat another Christian as I will do for you in the future it that is agreeable.

A slam from a brother in Christ? Thank you. And how is it that I have not mastered the English language?

Just before I hit the submit button, when I posted the Lord's Prayer, I stopped for a few seconds and asked God and Jesus that my posting His words would not be taken in the wrong manner, or seem to be insulting to some.

That is all I can offer to those who doubted my gesture.

I apologize again. I should not be insulting. I simply can't see how you could read what I wrote and then write what you wrote unless you were trying to either be obtuse or to misrepresent my comment. I want you to pray. I am not addressing how you pray, or about whom, but rather what you write here on this message board for all to read. I encourage you to pray for me at every opportunity but don't use 'I prayed for you" as a "comeback" in an argument. Do you see what I'm saying? I assumed that your intentions were pure from the very start; I am merely telling you how it "looks" to me and maybe some others.
Saying the truth in love is also something that I encourage you to do, but often it appears that you quote scripture as a means of self-justification. I'm sorry if it seems that I am picking on you but I feel very strongly that we display Christianity in an authentic and humble way. This is a public forum and Christians hold no greater weight than non-Christians.
Again, sorry if I’m being offensive but I think that if people like midnightrider and wxtornado et al are going to read what we write we have an obligation to make it worth their while.
