Why so mean spirited?

I know...and thats what i said in the back of my mind when starting my response...but seriously...people who ask such questions just wind up getting a boot in the head and left to the side. I know that veterans of this board could care less if another member joined up but thats how you ensure longevity...encourage new people to join. When new people do come here...and feel the atmosphere is always hostile...they leave. With that leaving is also huring the boards.

At sometime....someone needs to stand up and say HEY...what are we doing wrong here and why aren't we fixing it ? As a forumite community....we as a whole should set the sarcasm aside and resolve issues. Its the responsible thing to do as members. IMO

See, this is why I don't care. I am who I am, and I'm not going to change that because people are offended by that. If you don't like me, too effin' bad. You only go around once. I'm not going to spend my time caring how people in cyber space feel about me. If you want a warm fuzzy, find it in real life. It is also not my job to concern myself with forum membership. When board mommy starts paying me to be nice, then it will be my job.

I just think that if someone joins up, reads a few posts, gets the general idea of what is going on and intoduces themselves into a few conversations, instead of jumping in with some concocted story or gripe that they will be treated reasonably well. I know, I've seen it happen.

BUT NO ONE ASKED you to change, nor what you thought about them. Your position as NOTHING to do with the way you treat other people. It has everything to do about what others think about yourself and you pointed out that others' opinions have no value to you. GREAT! I would like to see you walk down a street and make offensive statements to people in their faces and not get your lights punched by someone. Then I would like you to stand up and say they had no right to do as much. In cyber space it is easier to take a stab at someone because you are not looking them in the face when you do it. Does this speak of one's character and values? Should message board’s MODS filter out the bad apples who “don’t care” whether they harass others on the boards or not? To be socially courteous is an ethic responsibility of everyone. If we all had your attitude then we'd all be waking down the street pushing people over, harassing them just for our own entertainment. No one is going to pay you to act civil. Didn’t your mommy ever tell you "If you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all?"

I agree with the person that made the first post. I came to the forums hoping to find some locals with good and useful information regarding good apartments to live in, areas to avoid, etc... (Because I'm new to the area). There was one thread I found where someone, like me, asked for info and mainly got sarcasm, very little useful info, and people picking apart her post and being mean. My experience so far here in Southern Maryland has been that locals are not outgoing and friendly and are mean spirited smart ***es. I'm from the South, I guess this is just the way Northerners are. However, I have met a few that are nice. I guess the nice ones are out with friends and the rest spend their time on these forums making other people feel stupid so they can feel better about themselves.

Mike, I do get it. I really do. I question if you get it though. I just dont see why it is so wrong for the bullying minority to be civil. Oh well... I did try to stand up for what I felt was the right thing to do.

What is right is not always popular, what is popular is not always right.

If that causes you and others like you harass even more...so be it. Have fun getting your kicks and punches in - its just too bad you cant look the people you are doing it to in the face when you do it.
