I was thinking more current than hundreds of years old, but you are very accurate here with bad Christians in the past.

But, a difference would be the cries of those in the religion against barbaric practices. Even then there were cries against. I don't hear much about that today, against the current barbarism. I was speaking to the culture of the religions today.

However, you put me in my place well.

If you can't find examples of christians and muslims getting along or muslims decrying the actions of a few in their name then you aren't looking very hard (a few have been posted in this very forum).

also, current vs. history really doesn't have much bearing imho .... if we're ignoring history, then we would also be ignoring the bible as it is a historical writing.

Apples and oranges again. The Bible is a historical document, I agree. What does it's status as a historical document have to do with it's followers' actions today as compared with other people's actions today?

They're very sparse because that kind of stuff isn't news and as such doesn't get reported .... seriously, the fact that you can find good news at all speaks to the fact that it's prevalent. If the animosity between christians and muslims that people seem to think there is actually existed, we'd all be dead.

Every day on these forums I see people pissing and moaning that all muslims are horrible suicide bombers waiting for their virgins etc.

really?

then why aren't we all dead?

because if a large percentage of the human population was actually ready and willing to blow us up, then we would be blown up.

Thank goodness people on both sides are good people and not just one side as is implied day in and day out on these forums.

I do wish it would be viewed as worthy news. I would read it if I saw the headline that read "Letter by several prominant Muslim leaders denouncing al Queda". I read the news about Iran's students protesting their leader. It helped put that country into perspective for me.

I'm a pretty simple minded person, I think. I'm not very smart, but I believe I know right from wrong. I don't think the bulk of Muslims are suicide bombers - that would be foolish to think. Anyone who lumps the bulk of people in a religion together for the actions of a few is doing a disservice to the bulk of people in their own religion as well as the one they're denouncing. In this case, we (of virtually all religions) are patently against a radical group of people in a single religion. That doesn't make the religion all bad, it makes the group bad.

I would just feel better if I saw the headline for the letter described above. I haven't yet. I'll admit I could have missed it. However, the cheering crowds shown on 9/11 in Arab countries pretty much assured me I wouldn't see that headline. At least, I can say it made me skeptical I'd ever see it.

how about these misguided christians?
Anti-Abortion Extremists
I'm not going to read each link in the link provided. Are these groups of people saying they are killing in the name of God? Or, is that your perception because these nuts are killing to stop killing? And, all of this has been severely denounced by most religious leaders as wrong - which was my whole point.

I could have sworn we had a topic with almost that exact title in here at one point.

Hey, I'd read the good news too, but the fact is that it probably wouldn't sell.

I could have missed it, I fully believe that. But, the only one i remember was basically saying the gist of what I'm saying - the letter wasn't there.

well what would be your moral ground for bombing an abortion clinic if not religious?

BTW, if you read the links, most of the perps are members of prolife groups (read christian)

and I dont see a lot of stories about religious leaders denouncing these acts. Whayt i do see is a lot of chruches with the little white crosses in front. kind of indicates their position.....

Wow, now you're getting you "facts" from hate filled comic books? Do you know anything about Jack Chick and the hatred he spews?

No she doesn't and she thought it perfectly moral and just, to post this perfect example of "Christians gone wrong."

That letter didn't denounce the actions of the few. A good letter, by any objective reasoning, but not what I was looking for. I'm looking for one where those same 138 sign saying al Queda is patently wrong for taking the actions they've taken regarding killing thousand of innocents in the name of Al'lah.

well to be perfectly honest, if al queda were in my backyard, I wouldn't put up a huge sign that says they blow goats on my window. They wouldn't stop me, however, from being a good tolerant person.

that is just understood.

besdies, cant you see that by annoucing that they want to have an understanding with christians, they are saying that it is wrong to blow them up?

While "religious" is not the same as "Christian" (since most religions don't believe in killing innocent babies), just being against killing could be more than enough. That doesn't require religion.
BTW, if you read the links, most of the perps are members of prolife groups (read christian)
The fact that you equate pro-life and Christian is only partly right - most Christians are pro-life. However, a Christian is also pro-life for the people in the clinic that work there, passing by.... Christians are against murder. Rank it up as one of the top ten things we believe in.

I'm not saying the bulk of them are intolerant or not "good". However, al Queda has been in my backyard - flying planes into my military complex and one of my major cities, and I say here totally that they are wrong.

If you can see that, can't you see that by merely saying killing is wrong, religious leaders are saying blowing abortion clinics up is wrong?
