The 'migrant gold rush' sends hundreds of thousands of people to America's border

Today the NY Times published a story about the big business of moving migrants from South America through an area called the Darién gap.

Every step through the jungle, there is money to be made.
The boat ride to reach the rainforest: $40. A guide on the treacherous route once you start walking: $170. A porter to carry your backpack over the muddy mountains: $100. A plate of chicken and rice after arduous climbing: $10. Special, all-inclusive packages to make the perilous slog faster and more bearable, with tents, boots and other necessities: $500, or more.
Hundreds of thousands of migrants are now pouring through a sliver of jungle known as the Darién Gap, the only land route to the United States from South America, in a record tide that the Biden administration and the Colombian government have vowed to stop.
But the windfall here at the edge of the continent is simply too big to pass up, and the entrepreneurs behind the migrant gold rush are not underground smugglers hiding from the authorities…
“We have organized everything: the boatmen, the guides, the bag carriers,” said Darwin García, an elected community board member and former town councilman in Acandí, a Colombian municipality at the entrance to the jungle.
The crush of migrants willing to risk everything to make it to the United States is “the best thing that could have happened” to a poor town like his, he said.

House Intel Chairman: Biden ‘Put A Price On American Heads’ By Agreeing To Iran Prisoner Swap

“When we received our briefing at the committee, obviously, we made known our concerns,” he said. “I mean whenever you put a price on American heads, you get an incentive for people to take more hostages.”

“These are, you know, billions and billions of dollars and so that’s a concern,” he continued. “The administration says we’re really only giving them their own money but it’s still money that they didn’t have.”

Turner also said the other problem with freeing up the $6 billion in oil revenue was that the money can be used to fund terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas.

“The administration says this is limited to humanitarian aid, but they also acknowledge that funds are fungible, which means they can use – move them around and will aid them in being able to do other things,” he said. “So, people are – are very concerned as to what this is as a pattern. The administration’s answer is, people shouldn’t go to Iran. I certainly want to echo that also. People should not be going to Iran.”

Inside Colony Ridge: The ‘Fastest Growing Development’ In The U.S. Is A Magnet For Illegal Immigrants

Colony Ridge, owned and operated by developer William “Trey” Harris, is rapidly expanding, at least in part due to a financing arrangement that makes it possible for illegal aliens to buy land deep in the heart of Texas. While traditional financing methods require credit ratings and proof of income, Todd Bensman, a National Security Fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies, told The Daily Wire that buyers at Colony Ridge are able to circumvent the usual requirements, even dodging the need to provide a social security number.

“Because with a traditional bank loan you need to be able to show that you have a credit rating and proof of income,” Bensman said, adding that buyers at Colony Ridge are asked to pay as little as a “few hundred dollars” as a down payment. “The loan is directly from the developer, bypassing traditional mortgages,” and while the buyer might pay high interest rates near 15%, it’s a great deal for someone with no other option to buy land in the country, Bensman explained.

Doing business as Terrenos Houston (which translates to Houston Land), the company appears to market its property entirely in Spanish, telling prospective buyers they can own land in the United States. An advertisement posted on the Instagram page for Terrenos Houston appears to target those who are either not currently living in the United States or who are not citizens of the country. The caption of the post, written in Spanish, roughly translates to “Still renting? Own land in the United States!”

Screen-Shot-2023-09-15-at-11.10.20-AM-300x248.png

It encourages potential buyers to reach out via Whatsapp, known as “a go-to app for millions of people who need to communicate internationally” because it “operates using an internet connection, bypassing traditional international calling restrictions and fees.” Numerous posts are hashtagged “#EstadosUnidos.”

But in addition to marketing to those who might want to “own land in the United States,” many of the development’s employees appear to be foreign nationals, living in Colombia and other Latin American countries, according to the Terrenos Houston LinkedIn profile.

The plots of land come with nothing on them and at an affordable price — the current offer is two adjacent plots of land for $65,000, with the buyers responsible for constructing a place to live.

Texas Massacre Happened in America’s Largest Illegal Immigrant “Colonia” — and Major U.S. Media Won’t Say So

How at least 50,000 illegal immigrants have changed once-rural East Texas hinterlands for the worse

AUSTIN, Texas — A Mexican national is on the run after slaughtering a family of five Hondurans next door, including an 8-year-old child, in a small Texas town a two-hour drive east from here called Cleveland.

American news media report the murdered parents had asked their next-door neighbor to stop firing his semi-automatic rifle at 11 p.m. on April 29 because they were trying to put a baby to sleep. Two other children survived under the bodies of their parents, who died shielding them.

But what no media has yet reported is that this horrific crime happened in what is regarded as America’s largest settlement of illegal immigrants, one literally exploding in population amid a U.S.-government fomented mass migration border crisis. In Liberty County, and now spreading into neighboring San Jacinto County where the massacre occurred, old-timers have been fleeing a new diversity of violent crime, murder, all-night weapons firing, and cartel drug trafficking that has boomed alongside the population. Indifferent U.S. immigration enforcement agencies leave this area to itself.

My recently released book, Overrun: How Joe Biden Unleashed the Greatest Border Crisis in U.S. History, dedicates a chapter of reporting to this massive illegal immigrant “colonia” as a warning to America about the coming consequences of an unfettered mass migration event now in its third unmitigated year that has already seen more than five million foreign nationals settle into U.S. towns and cities. Following are edited excerpts from the chapter “Forever Impacts”.

The program, called Expert Voices Together, is described in the government grant database as 'a socio-technical system that provides real-time support to experts experiencing online harassment.' The project’s goal is to provide journalists, and eventually other 'experts,' with means of 'monitoring and reporting' alleged abuse, as well as 'personalized assistance with digital safety' and access to 'mental health care specialists' as a form of 'trauma-informed care.'

Do we get blue cheese or ranch with that word salad?

Of course, the word 'expert' has lost all meaning, by the very actions of the people who call themselves experts. But it becomes even more laughable when that term is applied to journalists. Their expertise seems mostly limited to repeating what the government tells them to repeat.

And they're destroying the word 'trauma' too. People calling you out online for bad reporting isn't trauma, it's called accountability. But we get why they hate that word.

“Ready?” the teenager driving what was reported to be a stolen car asked as he geared up to hit the cyclist, Andreas Probst, a 64-year-old retired police chief.

A retired police chief, out on a morning bike ride, is apparently murdered by a nonwhite teenager, and the corporate media are silent. There are no protesters outside the killer’s house. There are no social media campaigns for accountability. Fortune 500 companies will not honor the legacy of Andreas Probst, despite his contributions to society.

As anyone with a functioning brain could tell you after watching the video, the hit-and-run was intentional. Thankfully, local police agree. The 17-year-old driver of the car whose name remains unreleased is expected to have his charges “updated to include open murder,” according to The Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Maybe this unnamed teenager will face justice and be locked away for the rest of his natural life, but what are the odds of an anti-social homicidal maniac actually being held accountable for his actions these days? I’m not optimistic, and that’s only part of the issue at hand.

Migrant Released by Biden Admin Arrested for Texas Border Town Murder

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber told Breitbart Texas during an interview on Tuesday night the alleged murder occurred on Cotorra Street and Progresso Avenue in the Loma Bonita neighborhood on Monday at around 9:30 a.m. The investigation began after a man was discovered bludgeoned to death in the backyard of a home in the neighborhood. According to Sheriff Schmerber, the unnamed victim is a 40-year-old Houston man.

Sheriff Schmerber declined to give additional details, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation being conducted in coordination with the Texas Rangers.

Additional law enforcement sources told Breitbart Texas the house where the victim was discovered had been used in the past in connection with migrant smuggling. A motive for the murder has not been established, according to these sources.

The source within CBP, not authorized to speak to the media, told Breitbart Texas the suspect, Roberto Emilio Vasquez-Santamaria, was arrested by the Border Patrol in Eagle Pass after crossing the Rio Grande. Vasquez-Santamaria was processed at a nearby facility, released to a non-government shelter, and chose to remain in the Eagle Pass area after being released.

Vasquez-Santamaria is currently being held in the Maverick County Jail on murder charges.

Biden Administration Makes Unbelievable Move to Re-Employ James Clapper and John Brennan

Remember James Clapper and John Brennan? It's easy to forget given how much has transpired since both men consistently led the news throughout the Trump administration. At one time, though, their involvement in Crossfire Hurricane, otherwise known as the Russia collusion investigation was really big news.

For those less initiated, here's a quick refresher. Clapper was Barack Obama's DNI and has been credibly accused of lying to Congress. Meanwhile, Brennan is Obama's former CIA Director and has been credibly accused of doing the same. Both men lived on cable news after Trump's inauguration, making all kinds of wild, unsubstantiated claims related to nefarious Russian collusion supposedly committed by the former president.

Then, in 2020, the two men reentered the spotlight as the most notable signatories of a now infamous intel letter that claimed the Hunter Biden laptop story was "Russian disinformation." That was a completely false contention that was used to influence the outcome that year’s presidential election.

“No human is illegal” has essentially been at the core of the Democratic Party’s border approach since the latter Trump years. Then–presidential candidate Julián Castro called for decriminalizing unauthorized crossings in 2019, most of his rivals for the nomination joined him, and the party platform that cycle made no mention of deportation as a legitimate enforcement tool. Easing restrictions at the border, federally, and broadcasting the message that cities would welcome all regardless of legal status, locally, have since combined to create an earthquake that is now forcing a fissure straight through the Democratic ranks.

“No human is illegal,” it turns out, is every bit as unsustainable as “Defund the police” when translated into policy.

[clip]

Jim Geraghty, in surveying the unfortunate situation both cities and immigrant families find themselves in, considers how we got to this point. As he notes, the United States already surpasses every other nation in welcoming legal immigrants, and it was never immoral or xenophobic to enforce basic immigration law:

All these Democratic lawmakers were fine with insufficient border security and lax immigration enforcement, as long as the associated problems were mostly contained to border states such as Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. . . . The sudden about-face by these Democratic officeholders is a de facto confession that they didn’t really think all that hard about the likely consequences of their policies.

Charlie Cooke’s take is further along on the pH scale: “Was their willingness to serve as a ‘sanctuary’ only operative when they believed that nobody would show up?”

Immigration being a federal responsibility, these mayors and governors are escalating pressure on Washington to relieve their own — making this, increasingly, a Biden problem, one that will be difficult to downplay come the election year. Adams’s budget director complained in a memo that state and federal aid has been “grossly inadequate.” Healey demanded a “national response.” While President Biden faces pressure from his left flank, House Freedom Caucusers threaten a government shutdown if a funding package doesn’t include a House-passed border-security measure. The administration reportedly is considering a way to force certain migrants in Texas to stay there, an idea Governor Greg Abbott responded to by threatening to send “even more buses” to Washington.

Yet, despite the White House claim that Biden “has done more to secure the border, to deal with this issue of immigration, than anybody else,” it’s not clear the president feels motivated to make that statement marginally less refutable — especially now that an impeachment inquiry (not to mention the Hunter indictment) has the administration on a war footing.

Biden-era migrant crisis blowing holes through budgets of liberal, sanctuary cities

Chicago’s announcement this week that the Windy City is facing a $538 million budget deficit, with a significant part of that attributable to its ongoing migrant crisis, marks the latest instance of a "sanctuary" city paying a heavy financial cost for migrant arrivals.

Chicago announced this week the $538 million deficit, driven by several factors including "the cost to care for new migrants arriving to the city."

NBC Chicago reported that at least $200 million stems from costs from special project costs — including migrant care. The outlet reported that recent estimates suggest the crisis is projected to cost more than $255 million by the end of the year.

Signatories of Hunter Biden laptop letter get plum jobs after pumping disinformation into election

Just weeks before the 2020 presidential election, 51 ex-high ranking intelligence officials signed a letter insinuating the Hunter Biden laptop was "Russian disinformation" after The New York Post reported on the laptop days earlier. The Post report mentioned how Hunter had abandoned his laptop at a Delaware computer repair shop and had emails regarding his business dealings.

The letter was "triggered" by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, then a Joe Biden campaign adviser, and its organizer, former Acting CIA Director Michael Morell, wanted to create a "talking point" to help Biden win the last presidential debate of 2020 and beat Donald Trump in the election.

Former Attorney General William Barr told conservative radio show host Hugh Hewitt in March 2022 that “given how close the election was,” the letter “probably affected the outcome, or at least there is a very distinct probability of that.”

In October 2020, Twitter locked The Post's account over the revelation of Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop, and on Facebook, stories linking to the Post's story were also blocked by the tech giants. The move came after The Post refused Twitter’s demand that it delete six tweets that linked to laptop-related stories that the Twitter claimed — without any evidence — were based on "hacked information", the Post said.

Major newspapers, mostly left-leaning, refused to report on the laptop, many using the letter as "proof" the laptop was fake. A year and a half after the Post broke the story, the Times says it had "authenticated" the messages it previously deemed suspect.

It's the first of a five-part series on the 'anti-vaccine political movement.'

A Biden administration that vowed to restore Americans’ faith in public health has grown increasingly paralyzed over how to combat the resurgence in vaccine skepticism.
And internally, aides and advisers concede there is no comprehensive plan for countering a movement that’s steadily expanded its influence on the president’s watch.
The rising appeal of anti-vaccine activism has been underscored by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s insurgent presidential campaign and fueled by prominent factions of the GOP. The mainstreaming of a once-fringe movement has horrified federal health officials, who blame it for seeding dangerous conspiracy theories and bolstering a Covid-era backlash to the nation’s broader public health practices.
But as President Joe Biden ramps up a reelection campaign centered on his vision for a post-pandemic America, there’s little interest among his aides in courting a high-profile vaccine fight — and even less certainty of how to win.
