Of course I'm a sucker for more romantic or historic atmospheres, hence my suggetions of Olde Breton Inn or the State House.
Now you're talkin'! :yay:

I'm sure the new VFW is lovely, as is the Hollywood VFD :twitch:. It's just the idea of it.

The Elk's Lodge (hall) is a hell of a lot nicer and larger than the VFW.
My girlfriend had her reception at the Fleet Reserve. Enormous - she got all her 7th District relatives in that place and that was no small feat considering most of them top 300#. Food was very nice (I can't remember if they did it there or she had a caterer).

But, again....the Fleet Reserve.... :twitch:

What about the chapel on base? What do you have to do to get that? I had a friend who got married there years ago, and I am sure he wasn't any kind of churchgoer.

I know it seems snobby, but perception being reality....and we just went through this with our Christmas party last year. They were going to have it at the Brass Rail :faint: The room IS lovely and they DO put on a nice spread but....after careful consideration, it was moved to Olde Breton Inn.

It's a shame really. These places work so hard to upgrade their facilities and clientele but we kind of :twitch: when we hear the name.

And it depends on what kind of event you're having. If you want something elegant, you don't do it at the VFW. Not that the VFW isn't very nice, but it just isn't right. Doesn't fit the theme.

If Larry and I ever renew our vows, I'm throwing a huge party at Chubby's up here in Emmittsburg. BBQ and beer for the masses! :yay:

How many folks are we talking here? VFW can handle 80 max if there's a dance floor. I thought something was posted about 150 a while back, if so this location is a no go.

My main concern is the wedding. The wedding ceremony is what is meaningful to me and what I want to be nice and have in a nice venue.

The reception on the other hand is really just a big party. :yay: Cheap and easy is good (no comments from the peanut gallery)! Mind you we're paying for everything ourselves so we've already decided to tone it down a notch or two and make it much less formal.

Have you given any thought to having the first ever official wedding in the Curch of Peteology? Since I have my own holiday that is a rival of Kwanzaa I started my own religion to rival Scientology, just less nutty. You could be in the record books as the first ever :yay:

That's what I was trying to say. The wedding I was at had about 60 people and it was in the afternoon on Sat. The bar area was still open to members so those of us in the smoking, bar area were with the regulars. The Dj set up and played in the hall itself and with dancing it was quite cramped and hot.

I think the wedding ceremony and recption are two different events all together. The wedding ceremony, I don't know that I'd call it elegant but it will be a regular Christian ceremony held in a church.

The reception on the other hand, will be later and a "cocktail hour" reception. Which really means.... PARTY TIME! :killingme

We got married on the Solomon's Annex and had our reception at a reception hall there as well. You have to submit your guest list in advance for approval, everyone has to stop at the pass office for a temp pass, and you have to have a sponsor. I can't remember if they let DOD personnel rent their facilities. They told us that PAX was less lax in their policies. :yay:

Which now brings us to the question of times. What are good times for a later in the evening wedding with a "cocktail hour" reception? Wedding at 7, reception at 8?

You will be invited but since you don't have your own church you'll have to wait till Catt and Otter renew to officiate! :jameo:
