Aarrgghh! For those who care, I moved here from LA because I love the beauty of the area and love the good-hearted nature of the people. (Someone tell me you care!?!)
Back in the day, the only place to eat was at Evan's Seafood for their all-you-can-eat special. Crab-stuffed shrimp was my favorite, with piss clams smothered in butter running a close second. Platters of steamed shrimp in Old Bay. And then there were crabs, crabs, crabs. Knock 'em and wash them down with cole slaw. Everything included. $13.50.
Good times, good times... And that wasn't barely 15 years ago.
Now when I want crabs I go to Stoneys on Solomons and have a crab cake. (I don't have the patience anymore...) I go to DiGiovannis for Italian food, Catamaran's for wings, Lone Star for steak during lunch, but Outback for steak at dinner. Monterrey's can be great or horrible, so I usually don't throw the dice there anymore. Linda's Cafe serves a mean meatloaf with green beans on Wednesdays. Probably the best $4.95 you will ever throw down.
About 6 times a year I will roll into Asahi and ask for the "sashimi whatever". (I don't think it is listed as such on the menu.) Nothing to ##### about, and the more grouper the better. Never encountered a maggot. Usually runs me $40.
I avoid everywhere else like the plague, especially BWB, the noodle place, and any chain with a "fun" theme like 'Applebees'.
Big question here... How did Ruth's Chris get tied up in this thread? Did one just move into SoMD, maybe taking over the Dean Lumber building or Agape Auto Repair? (Hold me back!) Ruth's Chris is the BEST steakhouse. For under $100 a couple can enjoy a perfectly prepared steak with two or three side dishes and leave a nice tip.
My last comment... If you think you want to go to the Tides, don't!!! Some of their food is wonderful, most is horrible. Before you go, take $160 out of your pocket and look at it...play with it...beautiful green crinkly... My girlfriend and myself dined at the Tides, and as we left the parking lot she asked, "Do you think Taco Bell is still open?"
