Genesis 22

You cannot leave Satan out of the equation when it is Satan that is battlling God over ownership of your soul:

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
1 Peter 5:6-9 (New International Version)

oh please.

god made satan, there is no 'battle for my soul' unless god doesn't feel like showing up.

on an aside, I should start putting quotes around 'god' and 'satan' .... I really don't want anyone thinking I believe this codswallop.

God can only show up when you ask Him to. It's your free-will decision. Until then, Satan, has control over you.

Why then does the concept of God and eternal destiny bother you?

whose dumb idea was that?

oh, right, .... gods.

it doesn't in the least. I just like to argue sometimes =)

also, I know god couldn't possibly be doing/responsible for half the things christians like to attribute to him, or he (god) would be the worst christian ever.

way I see it is that no one knows for sure and its been so long after the fact that no one CAN know for sure what we're supposed to be doing (if anything).

I don't blame you for being bitter and critical of the hypocrisy seen in many so-called "Christian" churches and denominations.

When you read the words of Christ, you will find that He had the same complaints as you.

"...So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, "Why don't your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with 'unclean' hands?"

He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: " 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'"

Mark 7:5-7 (New International Version)

Gotta sign off soon, Xaquin. have a good day. :)

oh, right, .... gods.

What exactly makes it a dumb idea? You have a better one? Oh, you mean it was a dumb idea that God gave us a choice? Who came up with the dumb idea that if you jump off a 20 story building that you will die when you smash on the ground? Or how about the dumb idea that if you have unprotected sex with someone that has AIDS that you will likely get the disease? All sorts of dumb ideas out there. The dumbest being making the wrong choice.

also, I know god couldn't possibly be doing/responsible for half the things christians like to attribute to him, or he (god) would be the worst christian ever.

And you know this how? What are your references? What makes God a Christian?

way I see it is that no one knows for sure and its been so long after the fact that no one CAN know for sure what we're supposed to be doing (if anything).

Because the Bible isn’t good enough for doesn’t mean it’s not good enough for us.

you don't think it's dumb that we start out "with satan in control" as starman said?

sounds kind of like a bad idea to me ....

And you know this how? What are your references? What makes God a Christian?

He's a bad christian for a number of reasons. Lets just go with 'thou shalt not kill' as the easy one. If you will read your bible you will see that god killed more people in one fell stroke then anyone else ever.

what makes god a christian? well nothing really as he is a murderer a million times over. what should make him christian? .... well he laid down the laws. Shouldn't he be held to them? or is it just 'do as I say and not as I do'?

Because the Bible isn’t good enough for doesn’t mean it’s not good enough for us.

the bible isn't good enough for anyone .... it's just accepted.

Ah yes....

The Deluge: A punishment inflicted on the human race by an all-knowing God, who, through not having foreseen the wickedness of men, repented of having made them, and drowned them once for all to make them better - an act which, as we all know, was accompanied by the greatest success. Allllll rightey then.

What would you do with a bunch of Hitlers, Charles Mansons, Jeffrey Dahmers, running wild in your neighborhood?

The Lesson Is That You Reap What You Sow:

2 Peter, Chapter 2 verses:

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

8( For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

well you shouldn't kill them as that would be against gods word .... wait .... but god did. hypocrite.

edit: imprison them? rehabilitate them?

also, there were no children and babies present on the earth? seems god could have just killed the evil ones like he did the first born sons in egypt (also a good example of the mercy of god).

so because there were false prophets 'among the people' god (in his wisdom) (haha) decided to kill everyone and everything on earth save for a few?

good idea god!

Horrible analogy. I don't know who the worst sinners are on this planet, but I am quite sure that if a high intelligence wanted to exterminate them, it would find a very precise method of locating each one separately. Carelessly murdering millions of innocent children and harmless old ladies, and dogs and cats, is absolutely and ineluctably to state that your idea of God is that of a cosmic imbecile.

I'm not really sure such a thing exists. Also, I wasn't asking for help anyway, so don't feel bad =)

So all the things you have been criticizing God about really have no merit because God doesn't exist to you. So now who will you blame for all the problems that you laid on God?
Rock On Xaquin! :larry:

I was asking what you would do. Would you want them living in your neighborhood if you knew they would continue doing harm to innocent people?

I was saying a prayer line you could call probably doesn't exist.

I have no clue if god exists or not.

Of course not, but if Hitler got the death penalty, I wouldn't kill his grandaughter and her cat either.

clearly, if I had a bad neighbor I would destroy the populace of the earth. Including almost all of the animals.

because that course of action is logical and morally sound.
