I will pray for you....

Jesus loves you. Everyone else thinks you're a tool.

Pray...don't pray...whatever floats your ark.

What you (or those like you) think of me doesn't affect me one way or the other. You are just another opinion on a internet forum...nothing more.

Works for me. I wouldn't take those classes, but hey - to each their own.

Maybe they should have classes for liberals like, "Tolerance: Looking Beyond the Rhetoric", and "How to Accept Others' Faiths Without Sounding like a Prick-Face Baffoon"

A conservative advocating tolerance?!?!? :faint:

1) I'm not a conservative.

2) Liberals are the most intolerant MFer's on the face of this earth. The hypocrisy - which you so deftly display in your above post - is what makes it so pathetic.

3) Get over yourself.

I don't know you, obviously, My impression is that you are not "overly" religous, at least not to the point getting pushy with your faith.
I will be happy to set you straight, then.:

I am an athiest.

Not an agnostic - an athiest. However, I am not of the Madeline Murray O'Hare school of atheism, nor am I hostile to Christians. I can enjoy a nativity, sing a hymn and say "under God" in the Pledge without spontaneously combusting. And I do not think - I KNOW that Christianity and religion are large parts of our history and heritage, and therefore worthy of learning about.

Your class on The Idiocy of Religion doesn't interest me in the slightest, but I'd be first in line for a Bible study course.

I didn't say it would be my class, nor would I attend. I was merely pointing out the inclusion of a pro-religious class in public school opens the door for the inclusion of an anti-religious class. The protests would be massive! You know Bill O'Reilly would get all lathered during another one of his "War on Christmas/Easter" type spins. :lmao:

Sometimes communicating with you is an exercise in tediousness.

Who said this would be a PRO-religion class? The article merely says it's a Bible class - they will teach the text of the Bible. If a class teaches the text of MLK's speeches, would you call that a PRO-Martin Luther King, Jr. class? How about a Shakespearian history class? Is that a PRO-Shakespeare class? And would a school then be required to offer an ANTI-Shakespeare class to "balance it out"?

I'm tempted to turn that into a signature quote, but the last time I did that, the entire thread was deleted.

Valid point. In practice, however, I believe it's difficult to teach the text of any holy book without crossing the line into evangelizing, unless it's a class about comparative religions where the objective is clearly secular. That wouldn't be the case in a class about MLK or Shakespeare, because people are extremely passionate about their religious beliefs.

If someone equates "freedom of religion" with "freedom from religion", would you not expect them to equate "Bible Studies" with "Pro-Christianity"?

I would like freedom from idiots. Who can I sue for that?

Okay...this for for those of you who are only capable of thinking one level deep. :banghead:

Freedom of religion: We are free to practice whatever religion we see fit, or to not practice religion at all (freedom from religion).

Have a nice Friday. Cheers!

Can you please provide evidence of anyone trying to force you to practice any religion?
