Ketogenic Diet....Best thing there is ....20g of Carbs on Less a day and you'll not only lose weight quickly, but any signs of the metabolic syndrome will disappear as well.

http://www.reddit.com/r/keto

1. Cut Carbs to 20g per day, not to include deductions of fiber
2. Drink 0.6 x bodyweight in Ounces of day of water
3. Moderate exericse if you can, if not no biggie.
4. Supplement Electrolytes, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium

Dieter beware. These types of diets can lead to ketosis. YMMV.
Most of the dropped weight is water weight, according to Lisa Cimperman, R.D.N., a clinical dietitian at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

“Once your body enters ketosis, you also begin to lose muscle, become extremely fatigued, and eventually enter starvation mode. Then it actually becomes even harder to lose weight,” Cimperman told Healthline.

The British Diabetes Association also points out that ketosis is potentially dangerous, “as very high levels of ketones can make the blood acidic, a state known as ketoacidosis, which can lead to serious illness in a relatively short space of time.”

“Keto diets should only be used under clinical supervision and only for brief periods,” Francine Blinten, R.D., a certified clinical nutritionist and public health consultant in Greenwich, Connecticut, told Healthline.

Tonight we had salads for dinner. They consisted of assorted lettuce, garlic stuffed olives, broccoli, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, genoa salami, aged chedddar and gouda cheeses, hard boiled egg, pickled beets, snap peas, carrots, and kalamata olives. They were delicious, satisfying, AND low carb.

When I'm watching carbs I would rather have this than cauliflower crust pizza or some other workaround.

Also I have always been disgusted by the wraps you get at the grocery store because mostly they are dry and tasteless. But there's a brand that I get at Giant, Let's Skip The Sandwich, that is really good. Throw one in a pan and let it heat up, then layer with deli meat, cheese, and assorted salad noms, roll it up, and it's a damn fine lunch or dinner. Or breakfast, if you're me, because I eat things like that for breakfast.

BIG salad, several slabs of roasted turkey, pile of cheddar cheese and blue cheese dressing. I was NOT satisfied when I finished and just threw the cookies out the window for the chickens (the coolest redneck thing in the world, throwing leftovers out the window) and need to throw away the yogurt and granola and bread and I'll be safe from temptation. Right now, I have WAY too much energy and want to eat the worlds largest Dorito and my tongue tastes like copper...

Get the My Fitness Pal app and put in your stats. Weight, height, amount you want to lose, etc. It will give you a calorie count per day. It keeps track of all sorts of things and it's pretty cool to use.

I'll have to check it out. Doesn't sound like something I'll keep up with.

So, this is the problem with this diet; 10:30, 3 hours sleep and I'm ready to go. And craving carbs enormously. Which I know will put me to sleep and I will feel like crap for it.
That's the thing about the carbs; I get hungry and feel awesome, stuff my face, satisfied, crash, feel like ass. Vicious cycle.

:tap: Maybe go to the gym?

Dieter beware. These types of diets can lead to ketosis. YMMV.

That's the point of a ketogenic diet; to be in a state of ketosis (where your liver produces ketones as a source of energy) as opposed to glycolysis (where your liver produces glucose as a source of energy). The point behind is our bodies have not genetically changed since our Paleolithic ancestors; where their primary source of food was meats, eggs, and nuts. It's important to keep in mind that ever cell of your body is predominately made up of fat and cholesterol (particularly your brain and liver) - NOT SUGAR. So your body needs lots of it. The food pyramid has us eating more carbs (which converts to sugar) than meats and eggs.

As with anything, too much of it can be dangerous. We're seeing a bit of an epidemic of diabetes in our society today; as a result of being in a heightened state of glycolysis - too much blood sugar. Lots of studies are now showing the excessive sugar levels and the consumption of gluten are the root cause of our multiple brain disorders: Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, ALS, depression, anxiety…

Ketoacidosis is a diabetic condition that your body enters into as a result of becoming insulin resistant, as a result of too much blood sugar. Your body tries to combat this by producing ketones to break down fat in order to provide energy to your cells. This is spurred on from eating too much carbs. My understanding of the ketogenic diet is that, because of the low level of carbs, you won't enter into any sort of diabetic state (unless you have type 1 diabetes); in facts claims are, if you are type 2 diabetic, this diet would likely put you in diabetic remission. But as I mentioned before, if you already have diabetes or heart disease you should talk to your doctor before starting this sort of diet. It's a good idea to talk to your doctor anyway about any sort of radical diet change.

So, going on 46:32:03 since I started and I'm good to go. Down 3 pounds already which means 30 more days of this and I'm at my goal. Simple.

I didn't even have a beer last night.

They didn't mention the real side effects: bad breath and ornery as ####!

I can't speak for my breath (my wife hasn't complained  ), but I do feel calmer and more balanced. In the first few days of the diet, that wasn't the case; mostly I think because of the transition from one state to the other. It can be a bit of a shock to your system.

This is me and why I love the salads and wraps I get from SIGS. They are wonderful.

This is what I'm currently using now and I hooked it to my Fitbit. My only issue with it is that when I eat a local places it's hard to track down the caloric info. And it tends to guide you towards package food also. But other than that I love it and it helps me stay under 1200 calories a day and within my macros.

I've always loved MyFitnessPal too, you can even manually adjust levels/calories if you're low-carbing. Plus there's a few forums on there worth looking at for guidance but they don't seem as active as they used to be. But my biggest problem is remembering to actually enter everything in  I'm the same way with any meds or vitamins. I can carry them around in my purse all day (or put a favorites link to MFP on every device I access internet on) and I'll still forget :ohwell:

Larry good luck with the low-carbing! :buddies: You're almost over that initial awful hump! I have several boards on pinterest chock full of LC recipes so if you need ideas, lemme know.
