thats true, they can however convince others to vote properly.
I dont think they even tried doing that.

this is like punishing the whole class for something a few did. The next time the few decide to pull something off, the rest of the class is going to try really hard to stop them.

If someone is determined to vote a certain way how can anyone change their mind? The job of our representatives is to vote according to what they see as being in the best interest of their constituents. You can't force someones vote.

That's the ONLY thing it has to do with.

And organized crime, and street gangs, and Al Qaeda cells, and ...

No one is going to get busted for a couple cartons of cigarettes they bought in Virginia. The people driving truckloads of cheap cigs up from NC have the attention of the State and the Feds.

Do you question where those cheap cigarettes sold online are coming from or who the profits are going to? Agree or disagree with the taxes if you will, but bootleggers are using their money from these sales to fund things much more sinister than some government pork program.

My US citizenship would have been verified by the local Board of Elections when I sent in my registration.

How? Did you sent in a notarized copy of your birth certificate with your registration or give the election board permission to access you medical records?
You're assuming some local government clerk has the time, inclination and resources to verify that information

:bs: That's all Maryland cares about.
That's why we have "sanctuary cities" where your legal status to be here will not be questioned.

No more than I question where the cheap TV in WalMart comes from.

So you would not question where cheap, obviously bootlegged items are coming from?

Then why did they set the limit at two packs instead of two cartons?

In My Opinion

In the state of Maryland, considering the steal from the working to give to the poor mantality, I would encourage people to purchase anywhere but Maryland.
lets hurt the state as much as we can. Lets squeeze right back.

"In recent years, New York City's black or ''gray'' cigarette market has aided a bevy of international terrorist organizations and nefarious elements, including the Russian mafia, Chinatown gangs, the Irish Republican Army, Hezbollah and al-Qaida. In 2002, Hezbollah ringleader Mohammad Youssef Hammoud was arrested in Charlotte, N.C., for operating a cigarette smuggling ring that bought low-tax cigarettes in North Carolina and sold them on the black market in high-tax Michigan. Just one van of cigarettes making the trip could bring in as much as $10,000 for the terrorist group. "

Hike in Cigarette Tax Opens Door to Other Vices

Complain about the taxes all you want, but buying cheap bottlegged cigarettes (as well as bootlegged dvds, cds, "designer" knockoffs, etc) is an irresponsible thing to do.

We're not talking about buying items from the back of Guido's truck. We're talking about picking up a carton of smokes in VA. According to MD law, 3 packs makes you a tax evader.
The ONLY reason for that is the money.

I don't know about you, but (if I still smoked) I'd rather pay taxes than Al Qaeda any day.

notice that the premise for the article is that raising taxes PROMOTES this black market system. if the maryland government was concernd with avoiding the use of cigarettes to fund illegal activity, they wouldn't have raised the tax!

:yeahthat: if the real concern was al qaeda, wouldn't they provide an exemption for anyone that could show proof that they purchased their cigarettes from a legitimate retailer (i.e a receipt!)
