New Businesses Coming to Southern Maryland

I think the one in Charlotte Hall was put on hold or not approved due to lot size restrictions and how the turn lanes would work off Route 5, among other things. It's probably in appeals process or something at county govt level.
It has been approved in Charlotte Hall. Back in May or maybe early June when they had the public hearing for the Aldi and Chick-Fl-A, I asked the developer about the Royal Farm location in Charlotte Hall when something was going to happen and he said permits were holding him up. I know bids have been sent out for a contractor to come in and start excavating the property. Someone has dropped off a portable potty on the property. Im thinking its the State Highway people holding it up, they are very touchy when you want to make a new change to a roadway.

So is that damned thing behind Bruster’s happening or not? They had all freaking summer. In the spring my son would ask, and I’d tell him that some things wait for warmer weather. Well crap.

Ditto everything ELSE in Hollywood “downtown”. No auto parts store near Early Bird. And the whole area around Toots is becoming a crap hole.

Even the old antique store with the giant spray-painted “SOLD” on it just sits. The Greenery is almost overtaken by Mother Nature and Thompsons is just a place to park equipment.

Damn.

I haven't heard anything lately regarding status on these issues.

So Downtown Hollywood is now just an extension of Downtown Lexington Park.
BTW, had the pleasure to drive into Millicent Plaza and I love what they've done to the no tell motel.
Back in the spring I took some stuff to the Habitat store, The owners have done so much with that plaza as well.

It would be nice if the old A & E Motel is bulldozed down.

It wasn't all that long ago I'd heard that - whomever is in charge of these things was planning - or perhaps vainly WISHING - that the strip of land from the Tractor Supply to Toots would become some kind of small scale mecca of shops. Kind of like, St Leonard I guess - or maybe even Solomon's. The DG, Tractor Supply and Bruster's are relative newcomers - there was a buzz of more - something going in across from the Early Bird - the plot across from the Moose Lodge (whatever is happening there) - and of course the whole "strip" of increasingly abandoned buildings the rest of the way towards Toots.

My daughter used to know the family that owns the Dew Drop Inn or whatever it is called now. But the rest of that whole place serves as little more than overflow parking for the bars. Yesterday, whatever was going on at Toot's just about filled the area, including the Thompson Furniture crap hole.

I think there's a certain irony that a nursery called The Greenery is fast BECOMING one - overgrown with green - vines, weeds and brush.

That's supposed to be a marijuana facility. The razor wire was installed, but I haven't seen further development.

I remember you saying that - but this is Southern Maryland. Due to inflation, I wish I had a DOLLAR for every unfinished project I've seen down here. I half expect that hotel on 235 near the VFW to just - stop. You know - like the entire slate of changes for all the areas around near the ALDI, including directly behind it.

I realize that some of these JUST TAKE TIME. For the longest time, we heard that something would replace that little plaza across from the Wawa on Rte 4, and the crappy trailer park behind it - and it lingered. Until one day we woke up and they flattened the entire area.

This is part of my fascination with abandoned buildings in this county. There's so many places that are just aching for someone to plow it over and begin again. From the Walmart all the way to the ALDI, there's a BUNCH of abandoned buildings in prime locations. I just noticed the other day there's a couple nestled in the woods near Three Notch Dental - if they're not abandoned, they ought to be.

That whole parcel of land certainly fizzled.

If you're talking about the land around ALDI - I'm at least glad we got ALDI - and the theaters. For so many years, we had those crappy ones in Lexington Park, and the constant reply was this area can't support TWO theater complexes. Well that was wrong, and my reply THEN was - not TWO - a BETTER one. On a good weekend, the one in Lexington Park could only ever support six distinct movies and would easily use one as overflow for a blockbuster. Understandable. They exist to make money, not offer choices.

But that means to see ANY movie in the theater that ISN'T one of their choices - we had to drive to Waldorf. Calvert kind of had the same situation. If it's a lower draw movie - wait for streaming. You won't see it.

And the parking - kind of sucked. And the lines went out the door. And the concession stands. Ugh.
Now, you can actually stand INSIDE the building to buy a ticket. I love the new theater and I've barely been NEAR the old one except to drive by it via shortcut and laugh at it as I drive by.

We never got the Home Depot. I actually never heard we WERE getting one, although the plans for the "Lexington Exchange" still shows some large store back in the corner. We never got the fast food sites around the ALDI - a spot I kind of thought was ripe for one - or a couple - but in lieu of the restaurant failures across the street, I can see the reluctance.

They need time to plan the best way to make it an idiotic cl*****f**k where to head south you must first go northeast, do 2 U-turns, then swerve across 3 lanes to reach a stoplight where the timing will always be eff'ed up!
These the same people that decided it was a good idea to put in a mile of center turn lane on rt 5 and then end it 20 feet before the shopping center?

I was trying to think of something clever to say but the whole conversation is just depressing. Very sad but very true. We live it unfortunately.

This part made me laugh, in a sad kinda way...

There are three parcels, one of which is already slated for an AutoSpa Car Wash. With the other two likely to see retail space in the future, an already failing intersection at Route 4 and 235, combined with the need for expansion of Route 4 heading toward the Thomas Johnson Bridge, which desperately needs replacing, AND new homes and apartments being built in the Myrtle Point neighborhood, this area is quickly becoming a Freddy Krueger traffic nightmare.”
