While I do enjoy going to bars while at school and not coming home smelling like smoke. I feel that appropriate incentives should be given to owners of the bars.

In pg county a particular bar has had they sale go down 40% since the smoking ban. Is this solely due to the ban probably not but it has effected business.

Maybe tax incentives for owners who ban smoking. Make it worth their while.

Government should work to help the all people, smoking or not.

...the incentive should be 'no smoking' and we'll let you stay in business. What's with all this putting business before government crap? In fact, government should set amount of beer people can drink and only allow enough bars to service that privilege. That way we can keep track and control it. This is public health we're talking about here, not free enterprise run amok.

I personally hope that the ban goes through so if I end up in a bar for some odd reason when I come back to MD ...
And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. We should ban smoking in bars nationwide, just in case some non-smoker decides to go to another state and ends up in a bar for some odd reason.

That made me laugh out loud. :lmao:

Ban it!

I say ban the things that most negatively affect the people around you in any public place. This includes smoking and loud music booming for your Escalade at every red light. It subjects people to things they may not like without giving them the CHOICE. And don't feed me that "then don't go to bars" BS. Not everyone who enjoys drinking and socializing needs to smoke.

Oh yeah, and they should mandate automatic loss of driving privileges for anyone who tosses the butt out their car window. Not only do I hate the fireworks display of burning trash ricocheting off my hood, but it's also littering. USE YOUR DAMN ASHTRY!

I want to quit smoking anyway... :ohwell:

The truth is most smokers would like to quit. They know it is unhealthy and not truely accepted as a social habit, not unlike chewing tobacco in public years ago when spitoons were as commonplace in bars as ashtrays are today.

They are addicted . It's tough. Hopefully science will help.

Just MHO

I just bought a car, didn't know you needed to ask for the smokers package to get an ash tray or lighter. Comes with a "power outlet", not lighter.

I'd rather not smoke in my brand new car but long trips are going to be tough, guess I'll go to Wallyworld and buy an ash tray.

I don't understand your argument. Since not everyone who enjoys drinking and socializing needs to smoke, nobody is allowed to? Is that your argument? If it is, that's just f'ing :dork:

I'm not reading this whole thread. I'm going to assume that some good people have already put out the argument that the non-smokers should vote w/ their dollars, and simply boycott smoking bars. When those bars lose money to non-smoking bars, they will voluntarily ban smoking. Simple economics, no big brother needed.

Right? Somebody tell me I don't have to type out another explanation of this, since I've done it a lot already.

Goddamn, people piss me off. And this, coming from somebody who quit smoking 7 years ago! A smoking ban won't even affect my daily life, I simply oppose it in principle.

When the ban goes the way they want too you won't be able to smoke within 25 feet of the buildings or 25 feet from ANY DRINKING AREA so the "outdoor" bars will be non smoking too.

Way to sit home on your butts doing nothing but smoking more butts. 4 people showed up against the ban. WOW, what a show of support.

I'm not happy about my lack of attendance; my kid got a bad case of the stomach bug going around this week. I couldn't go anywhere.
