Stray Friendly Young Boxer - HELP PLEASE

ArkRescue

Adopt me please !
The guy is married and they had 2 boxers for many years. The dogs both died in the past year or so of old age. The oldest was 14. Listening to him talk, he sounded like his dogs acted just like Boxy does about his food, cats, energy, etc. It's interesting how much alike Boxers can be.

Instead of purebred, they decided to go with a rescue this time. Barring any issues with the vet check, Boxy will be going to his new home next week. I am so excited for Boxy, as I feel no reservations at all about Boxy's well-being with this couple. They have been there, done that with their 2 prior Boxers.

Boxy hit it off with the guy immediately. Accepted potato chips from him readily (quite an accomplishment since in the beginning he didn't accept food from strangers) and Boxy was all over him wanting to play. New people meeting Boxers ought to be given a crotch guard (guys anyway). Every guy Boxy gets close to and says "HI" to, ends up cringing a bit LOL

The guy said he was particularly impressed at how Boxy handled taking food (gently) and how he doesn't bite down on your hand or arm when playing. Boxy won't even play tug-of-war. He said he would be willing to get Boxy's eye closed. Said he's had Boxers in the past that were difficult to handle at the vet office, been there, done that ... oh and I had Boxy show off and he did his sit/down/rollover too.

Me too because this couple sounds perfect for Boxy. I am charging an adoption fee for him equal to what Catt paid to have him vetted. So she can get her $$ back and save another dog one day with it. I just  Catt for helping.

Boxy really deserves a good home because he's such a sweet boy.

Several folks (a vet too) commented that he may have been used as a bait dog and that may be how his eye was damaged.

What great news!!!

Sometimes critters stay with me a while and I struggle to find them a home, then along comes a good or great match. I think this one is a great match. Anything Boxy could need in terms of veterinary care will be provided to him with no monetary concerns, so he will be well cared for. They can certainly do way more for him than I can.

Oh get this, I mentioned that a few days ago Boxy had been wagging his tail so much that he hit something hard and his tail started bleeding (if his tail hits your leg when he's super happy it really HURTS and can leave welts). Well we got in the car, Boxy was in the back seat, and apparently his tail hit the window and started bleeding. The inside of my car is light blue. OMG when I realized what had happened I had to switch vehicles LOL. By then he had wagged his tail happily another 25 times? There's a LOT of blood in my car.

Now does anyone know of a good way to lift blood out of light blue Honda car interior material?

I also wonder if there is anything I can put on his tail tip to heal over the wound faster? I am keeping him away from hard items when he's happy to keep his tail from bleeding again. So he's spending a lot of time in the bedroom for now.

OMG. :lmao: My dog got a small scrape on the tip of his ear once (fighting with the cat, I'm sure). It bled like the dickens and formed a really thick scab, which would fall off every time he shook his head, splattering blood all over the house. ICit (I think) recommended betadine which really sped up the healing process. Once I started using it the scab was a normal thickness and didn't fall off. We also used a band-aid. :lmao:

The only thing I know to take blood off of material, is Hydrogen Peroxide. As far as Boxy's Happy Tail goes, I can't offer any recomendations. What GOOD NEWS to read Ark.! I know that it will be hard on you when he goes off to his new home! I am SO happy for him!! GOOD JOB!

He's been sleeping with me every night after the first few days he arrived, so it'll be strange to be able to sleep with my bedroom door open again. I'm sure the cats will be grateful to have THEIR bedroom back LOL.

I was totally honest with the guy about Boxy (the ad he responded to basically laid it all out there, so he knew what he was inquiring about lol) - I figure no surprises are best to create a happy home for all concerned. I figured if he still wanted Boxy after I told all, then it's meant to be ya' know? It was so interesting how the "issues" I told him about were things he had already dealt with in the past (whew). He poked and prodded Boxy to see his reaction and Boxy showed concern here and there. I explained how I had been able to do more, as Boxy grew to trust me. They agreed to my condition that he be returned to me if it doesn't work out.

I thanked them for being open to a rescue, and that Boxy obviously had been waiting for them to come along. I've had a few offers to adopt Boxy, but none were a good fit, until now. Oh these folks have 6 acres of land also <G>.

It sounds so promising, Arkie. I hope he has found his forever family!

After dealing with my boy's digestive issues with food and his skin allergies (stinky), I told them Boxy seems to transition from one food to another easily, he's also one of the most scent-free dogs I've ever had around, and although he's not a big eater, he will defend his food from the cat LOL

If anyone recalls Joey the Calico female kitty? She is a cat that loves to be petted so much that she was a nuisance to the lady who turned her over to me. Well, I found a lady who LOVES to pet cats for Joey - problem solved.

It's all about match-making .... there's a match for just about every critter. I'm convinced of that. Oh speaking of, I found a lady who does web design that is going to get the CritterConnections.org website up for us soon. People will be able to find homes for their critters by placing free ads on the website instead of taking their critters to the shelter (we hope).

Vetricyn spray worked wonders on my old hound, wounds on my cats & horses.

I'll check tomorrow for it locally. I used Betadine the 1st day. I meant to call the vet today about that, but time got away from me and next thing I knew it was 7pm.

If pet stores are open tomorrow they should carry it. Blue tinted bottle, some tack stores carry it also. It is a little pricey but seeing that you can use it on almost any animal it is worth it. Peppers carry it but that is a ways from you. I would call the different places first to see if they carry it. Google it as the web site is very informative.

With wildlife we use EMT Gel....works fast in helping wounds granulate in.
Just apply it to wound and leave it be. It hardens in a few minutes and is pretty much lick proof.
