I would rather die an honorable death, having stood by and remained strong in my beliefs, fought honorably, and having not lived as a hypocrite, than stoop to their level just so I can live a few years longer in shame for my actions.

Sleuth, I hate to say it buddy, but if you started your own country and fought a war playing by the rules, even France would be able to take you within a week.

War is won by being the meanest, dirtiest, SOB on the block. Like Vrai mentioned, Japan didn't fold because we were "honorable" or that we were so nice they just decided, "hey they're right, we're wrong". Japan folded because we vaporized a few of their cities.

The reason we have so much resistance in our wars this day and age is because they know US politicians are a bunch of sissies and can't stomach the ugliness of war. Until our policticians and the vocal minority peaceniks of this country grow a backbone and set of balls, they're going to continue to kill our people. We give them hope that with each and every body bag, our resolve will shrink.

WELL SAID!!

There's honor in the battlefield, there's no honor in abusing POWs

What your failing to realize is these people are criminals and not soldiers. So does the GC even apply?

Honor is for the big screen movie re-writes of war. I would have to say if I had to choose my honor or humiliating someone in the chance it may save my fellow soldier's life, I'd more than likely be breaking out the glow sticks. :bubble:

actually it's a mix of criminals and POWs. GC is being applied at all of the detention facilities... probably since Iraq is an occupied country right now.

only a handful of folks know just how sick and twisted my mind might operate under in circumstances calling for actions such as those we're talking about.

you aren't one of 'em.

Yea, with all the camps we have, they just happened to mention the one where the abuse is taking place

Anyways, like I have said over and over again, the point is we need to quit giving these people the ability to pin these things on us (or whomever) as revenge. Keeo our noses clean, finish the job we are there to do, and be done with it.
We haven't given them one single reason for this. We do what no one else does, we police our own. What we have done regarding the guards is what needed to have been done. They were relieved of their duties and are under investigation that will eventually lead to courts martial and if found guilty they will be punished.

Remember all of these alleged abuses took place months ago, not just last week and many of those that claim to have been abused have been released from detention. So how could this be in retribution? It has been known for months that the allegations existed and more in Iraq cared then in America so it can be certain that Al Qaeda knew about then. It wasn’t until the US press became central to the story that they took up these acts.

These Al Qaeda terrorists are playing you and the media for all you are worth claiming it is because of the abuses when in fact it is because that is how they do their deeds. They don't fight you straight up; they do it from the holes of snakes and spiders, and then blend back in with the populace. Their only hope is that the media diverts attention away from these grisly acts (like this decapitation) and keep the focus on the alleged abuse.

As to keeping our noses clean, I offer that for the greater part our troops have and they do a better job of that then anyone else. We have had a handful that broke the rules and the military court will handle them appropriately.

Couple of more healthy alternatives:

1) Get a punching bag.
2) Print out a picture of Al Sadr.
3) Pin the picture to the punching bag.
4) Take out all frustrations and rage.

Or:

1) Find the people who actually did the deed.
2) Cut off pieces of them until they beg you to kill them.
3) Kill them.

Easiest solution.. stop taking prisoners.. if they have a gun in there hand and mean our troops harm.. light 'em up!! DOn't give them an opportunity to surrender.. they want to die and get their 70 arabic virgins *shudder* lets help them on the way!! Of course they probably fantasize about the 70 virgins being American Women..

But it wasn't big in the news until recently. For them, having the abuse being shown all over the world, it gave them "credebility". Plus it is just come out the magnitude of the problem which we, even in the US, wasn't aware of fully until recently.

That's probably right. If I started my own country and fought in any war, I would probably get the living sh!t beat out of me because I don't have a military yet.

You guys go fight your dirty wars. In the end I have to answer to my Maker, and I'm going to live, fight, and die by that philosophy. I won't live in shame.

itsbob already said it. If you don't want to have to worry about this sort of thing, then take no prisoners. If they have a gun, and they aim it at you, kill them. There's no dishonor in that.

what's the difference? whether you kill 'em on the spot or 2 hours later via slow, torturous methods ... the end result is the same.
