A flat tip screwdriver is much more dangerous and deadly than most pocket knives. And probably used in more crimes than a pocket knife too.

Hammers, yup, can kill someone with one of those.. crescent wrench.. you betcha.. cross tip screw drivers.. yep, can kill someone AND leave cool patterns..
Yeah, let's sit here and compare knives and guns to tools.

there you have it.. you've finally got it.. They ARE tools, just like a screwdriver, or a hammer up until the time they are used AS weapons.

A screwdriver or a hammer can kill you just as dead as a Glock when used as a weapon.. so can an iron, or a frying pan.. or one of the knives you have in your kitchen.

But being responsible parents you teach them what a tool is for, what is intended use is, and you teach them the proper way to use it..

I assume you've taught your children to cut food with a steak knife not to stab people at the mall?

You can do the same thing with a pocket knife, or a gun.. they too are tools with intended purposes, and only become wepons when used as such.

That is just gross and not the slightest bit funny.

It would encourage them to stay in school and not act the fool. If more parents did stuff like that there would be far fewer animals in school.

The Hapners told The Bay Net that when they looked into their copy of The Code before Tim’s hearing they discovered that pocketknives were not included in the list of forbidden items in their copy. They mentioned this at the hearing, but Ms Kunkel replied that the online version of The Code does include them. The Hapners were upset about this seeming mistake on the part of CCPS.

No, its common sense not to bring any type of knife to school.

Better keep hime away from Pools, Puddles and Rain.. as well as don't let him walk anywhere.. and "All other causes" I guess that's where screwdrivers, hammers, nail guns and the like come in??

Jesus f'in christ, it was a POCKET knife... It wasn't an automatice weapon or a machete, it was a POCKET KNIFE.... They could have really screwed this kid up for life if they chose some of the other punishments, over a simple mistake. Amybe you don't care about what would happen to a GOOD kid becasue it isn't your kid, but I do, and I feel for what the family is going through. At least the kid knows his Mom and Dad will come to his defense when he makes an innocent mistake and not just feed him to the dogs and tell him.. "That'll teach you, you should have known better!"

Half of the kids I went to school with would have been expelled, and i don't remember ANY of us getting stabbed..

I hope they take all of them to court and WIN!

He meant to leave it on the kitchen counter but got distracted by his morning routine and left the house to catch his school bus without emptying his pocket.
Sounds like an innocent mistake to me.

We have different opinions on this. So be it. I just know that my kids will not have weapons for toys. :yay:

Where are you getting that anyone here said that a pocket knife was his toy?

My older son who is 11yrs has a pocket knife. It was given to him when he earn a widdling patch in the scouts. He however knows the safety of owning a pocket knife and never had a problem with him owning one. My friend gave his son a gun for his 13th birthday. Why! because he and his son goes hunting it is a son and father thing. Plus, his father is a police officer and taught him the safety of owning a gun. His son is a upstanding citizen and only uses his gun for hunting. He doesn't bring it out and say look at what I got to his friends.
So parents don't give their kids Weapons as a TOY!!! if that is the case we all would long gone been F*cked.. It is parents that don't show their kids the safety and the consequences of a weapon that are more than likely to harm others.

Everyone has their own opinion about this. I have made the choices for my kids. My choice is for them to not have guns or knives. The end.

I guess when your kids get older you will be still cutting their food, because G-d forbid a kid using a knife.

Now you are being ridiculous. Using a knife at the table while I am there is much different than running around with one.

Socki, I can understand your point of view. There are many kids that should never be allowed to have knives....but for many rural kids they are just what Bob said...tools. I would guess that in my area, about 85% of the kids have pocket knives. I own about 10 of them...and I use them as tools. Crap, you ask any guy around here if he has a knife, and the answer you'll get is "I have my pants on, don't I?"

Sure, the kid shouldn't have brought it to school, but it's just a pocket knife.

You can't "parent" by simply removing touchy subjects and/or items from their childhood. They learn respect, responsiblity and consequences from experience and exposure. They don't wake up one day in adulthood knowing these things. I am sure we all know young adults that are stunted in growth as a result of their parent(s) chosing to "shield" them rather than "teach" them.
