Now you are being ridiculous. Using a knife at the table while I am there is much different than running around with one.

No, a knife is a knife they all cut stuff. When you are camping you use a pocket knife to cut your food..

You can't "parent" by simply removing touchy subjects and/or items from their childhood. They learn respect, responsiblity and consequences from experience and exposure. They don't wake up one day in adulthood knowing these things. I am sure we all know young adults that are stunted in growth as a result of their parent(s) chosing to "shield" them rather than "teach" them.
My kids will know what violence is because it is in the world around them. However, they will not have a gun nor a knife in their possession. I grew up without guns or pocket knives around me. My father has never owned either. He also does not hunt. Why is this so abnormal?

Pocket knives are functional not just weapons.

So because you don't have something, nor understand it. It's wrong? No one should have one? And you never brought something to work/home that you shouldn't have?

Okay you might not but what if your son wants to go camping with a friend and his family? A knowledge of a pocketknife can be really helpful especially while in the woods. There are more tools on a pocketknife than just a blade.

I am talking about my kids. I do not want them to have guns or knives. I did not say that nobody should have one. However, I do not agree with kids having them. Nobody has to agree with me.

What if your son wants to join the boyscouts? They use knives....and they even shoot bows and arrows...and make campfires.

What makes that knife any less a weapon than a pocket knife??

There is a huge difference in using one around an adult than allowing them to run around with one in their pocket.

JFC. Did you not read where I said that having an adult there supervising makes all the difference?

So now you are changing your tune. First it was all about they will never use one to now "having an adult there supervising makes all the difference?"

Can you makeup your mind on what side of the fence you want to be on.

I will not buy my kids knives or guns. The end.

P.S. I am not the only one in the world who has the same views. Thank God, my fiance agrees with me. He too, came from a family without guns or knives in the house.

This reminds me of what my mom said when my brother was little. She also didn't want him to have any "violent" toys... Then she saw him pick up a stick and play with it like a gun. :lmao: She gave up after that.

The way you raise your kids is none of ours business.
However, don't sit there and try to say that we are wrong or bad parents because we choose to do so..

Why do kids have knives? Be it a butcher knife or pocket knife. It is not an object for a child to have. I do not get parents who give their kids these as if they are toys. It is not like they are camping and need them for survival. I feel the same way about parents who buy their kids guns. There are so many other things in the world for them to play with. Less violent things. But, this is just my opinion.

I said that I did not agree with it. I do not. You never saw me post that any of you are bad parents.
