Assasin bugs are an array of colors and sizes. Did an entomology class once and learned a lot. Right now they are light green and in the nymphal stage. Kinda stick to you if they get on you. The first picture in this post is the larvae of a lady bug.

AHHH-I have seen these things! My garden is loaded with them -in fact I saw one the other day on the hood of my husbands truck.
That one article--gross!! they poison their meals and their saliva turns the insects insides to juice and they suck it out with their nostrom!!! :barf:
Probably all bugs do this but to see it in print -YAK!

Does your S3 have a "Super Macro" setting also? I have the S5 and I set the dial for C (custom) then hold the Macro button to access "Super Macro".

Did you get your macro lens from lensmateonline.com? I'm thinking about picking up the adapter rings, a tele convertor and some filters from them.

Yes--my S3 does have a "super macro"--it's great. I tend to use the "p" setting and turn autobracketing on--as long as you remember your taking 3 shots at once and dont move--it will usually give you a good choice to pick from.

About the Teleconverter--I did buy from lensmateonline btw. I don't know about the S5 but I got the Raynox DCR-2020 pro--I get good shots but they are not as clear as I'd like them to be and often have aLOT of color abberation to them--I sometimes get perfect red lines around things --it drives me crazy! I've seen on the canon forum where people bought the canon tc and were very pleased. I am almost tempted to get one--just to see if I can do any better. Oh and get a tripod--you will need it( got a nice one at walmart for $20!) Example with the DCR 2020---the light was good, I was on a tripod --it wasnt that far away and still I get......

Hiding inside from all the rain :) About to begin bug hunting in earnest now that we should have sunshine this week.

I really liked the second shot of the attached photos, nicely done for DOF and sharpness!

Thanks!--That catapillar if quite photogenic--he's been hangin out on my Crape Myrtle for days now ---hopefully he'll eat every darn leaf off the thing--and kill it.

I was looking at the Canon lens also but the objective end of the lens is not threaded so you can't use filters, or anything else for that matter.:ohwell: I know that good glass will get you better pics, so I may go the TC route myself. I already have a tripod, I just didn't have it with me for the eagle shots, or are you talking about one of the mini table top tripods?

Oh yeah that's right, it's not threaded --I haven't gotten any filters yet--thinking about a polarizer and UV. I have a mini tripod also but the one I was referring to is or can be 6 ft high. I think it's pretty good for $20 --it's light --comes with a carrying bag and two brackets so you can have two cameras ready to pop in.

Thanks Mike!!--coming from you....that is quite a compliment. I have always liked the close up details--even before I had the capability to do it--but when I see what some folks do--my stuff pales by comparison.
Practice Practice Practice!!! It's the best teacher I know.
