:bs: It's the PERCEPTION (or perseprion, depending on your intellect level ) of the persons raising them. Their beliefs influence them a lot, as well.

If you THINK ADHD doesn't need medication, then I guess you don't think heart disease or any other medical problem requires medication. :ohwell:

Once again......ADHD is not life threating.

Now, here's my point.....what if APS was Crabcakes Ex-husband.....? Now your agreeing with both sides of the arguement!

no not really, each case is different and should be handled so. If one child needs meds and the other does not then so be it. But if that child is on meds and it is helping the father should respect that and work with the other parent for what is best for their child.

Disrupting the meds is only hurting the child even more.

Joint legal with primary physical ....

If you have medical docuementation backing up your statements, then if it were me, I would ask the father to be more involved in the process that got you there. Offer him to go with you to speak with the Doctors.

If not I would seek out a lawyer. Walter Sayewr in lexington Park is one of the best. At least you can say that you tried to work it out and you were willing to look at all options.

Last time I checked ADHD wasn't a life threating disease, although thats what most people like you think! yes, I do raise my boys up to be tough, I'm not going to bring them up to be little sissies like most of the kids I see these days.

Okay some of this I agree with you. But ADHD can have major impacts on the quality of your childs life. Your child may not have it and that is good but for those that do then why deny them the medical treatment they need.

Being hard is a good thng but compassion is just as important.

Once they observed how the child acted around me, they wouldn't think he needed medication. Its all about parenting.

To a point I agree but not all cases are about parenting.

I do want what is best for the child and drugs are not it!

Maybe for you child you are right. Drugs is not the answer to all but it is for some.

Again if your child needed insulin would you deny them that?

If the majority of these parents that have their kids on medication, would just sit down with them and spend time with them, they would probably realize that they don't need medication...just quality time with people that love them!

I cannot argue that either.....many are exactly that but you have to know not all. Some do suffer from chemical imbalances or medical problems that can be corrected through proper medication.

the only children I have heard of that I could ever possibly think of putting on meds......are the ones that act out in violence towards their parents.

How about violent towards teachers? Last time my son was in school, he broke up a chair and threatened a teacher with a chair leg. Beat the hell out of a file cabinet with it. He is no longer allowed in public school so he just stays home with his mom.

And for the record, I'm not interested in opinions of whether or not you believe ADHD exists, think kids should be medicated for it, etc.

Like I said, I'm not interested in your opinions on whether medication is necessary for it or not.
This reminds me of my Pergo thread. Sorry, carry on.

Neither is herpes, but I'm sure your ass would be at the doctor asking for meds if you had it. :bubble:

I think the point is that the overabundance of kids being misdiagnosed has skewed the fact that some kids do actually have a problem. If Crabby's DQ, at her young age, recognizes that she performs better on her medication, then it's likely she's actually benefiting from it. And regardless of anyone's opinion, each child is different, and it's up to that child's parent to decide what's best for them, period. You don't know DQ, so how can you diagnose her?

If your X can handle her when she is not on it, then why does it matter? Just put her back on it when she gets home. Sorry, its just hard for me to get into this subject without being biased. My son's teacher wanted to put him on that stuff, because she couldn't handle him. He always told me that the teacher was really boring and he acted that way because he was bored out of his mind. I got into it quite a few times with his teacher, but guess what, this year he has a new teacher and she thinks he's great.....and he gets good grades.

It's against the law for teachers/educators to suggest/recommend/require medications of any kind. (Check out the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act [IDEA] laws.)
