Rumors floating out there of prices of gas falling BUT...that does NOT guarantee that heating oil follows the pattern
Let's start the Fall comparison:
*Burch Oil--3.649 (---under 'Order fuel now)
SMO: Info on Smart pay, monthly plans, blah blah blah. no on-line price offered. (125 gal min order)

Ridgell: 3.639 THEN...they add the tax!--Comes to 3.96/gal
Q-dog: 3.599 no delivery fees,...unsure if taxes are added at purchase price!
Trossbach: 3.64 (I wonder if they would be willing to match Q-dog?

Better ask when you place an order if taxes are attached after that price. I do not recall having to do that before!

Thanks for the info. It appears that these prices are pretty much in line with on-road diesel prices locally. 😒

Maryland does NOT have a sales or use tax on home heating fuel.

So you are either misreading the bill or the supplier misapplied it, probably the latter.

I just called Southern Maryland oil to discover that my account had been terminated for reasons unknown to me. So they opened a new account for me and then gave me a discount at $3.10 a gallon and said the normal price was $4.30 a gallon right now.

Just sneakin' around....
Just stuck the tank. Had about 29.5" back in middle October, now have 27". Used about 30-35 gallons so far. Closing off the unused portions of the house and setting the thermostat to 55* works great for saving fuel. Won't have to buy any.
Just stuck the tank and did a little math. Currently 20" (197 gal). Since above (Oct 2022) at 29.5" (322 gal), I've used 125 gal. in 2 years. :yay:

But looks like now is a good time to order some. 200 gal should do it. I have a service contract with Burch, so that will be my source.

Ordered at $3.469.

With that oil sitting so long getting old, do you add a diesel biocide treatment additive when the tank is filled, or add some every year? You know, to prevent sludge accumulation, inhibit tank rust, preventing filters and strainers from clogging, and for the prevention of plugged injector nozzles caused by bacteria and microbial growth? Which can also cut down on furnace maintenance and allow for more efficient burn. Just curious.

Some excellent suggestions there...wonder what the oil company's position is on the treatment.??

Nope. Furnace gets a cleaning every year under contract. Fuel that is pumped out of the tank during the cleaning is fine, no contaminants. Filter is changed, old filter shows no signs of contamination. Never had an issue in the 30 years I've been here.

Replaced my heating oil tank last year after 26 years of use, no sludge at all neighbor has made a smoker grille out of it. Never added any additives to it. Lightytoasted spouting drivel again.

3-level house. Close off the 2nd and 3rd levels, turn on the furnace to 55*. Lower level has the pellet stove, bedroom, bathroom, family room, den. Average temp is 72*. Quite comfy.

JHFC! Insecurity and small dick syndrome are serious issues with you.

Home heating oil is dyed diesel fuel. Diesel fuel that sits for an extended period of time can develop microbial sludge and bacterial growth that can cause problems with the fuel in tanks and in fuel delivery systems ~This is a known fact. In addition, water can condense due to temperature fluctuations, especially if a tank is not full all the time. Now, maybe, the local oil companies add a biocide, or other additives, to their heating oil products, I don't know. I don't have oil heat. I just posit questions to those that do in the instance that they might want information to know more about it.

Now please, rightly fuk off.

Do it all the time. Add the right partner and a little mutual friction and cold isn't an issue.
